COVID-LY CELEBRATING TWO

I AB-SO-LUTE-LY cannot believe that my little baby is turning 2! Where did the time go? We zoomed past breastfeeding and pureed foods to running and talking in sentences. Now, it's time to prep for his second birthday and I am super excited that we get to have it in our backyard with close family.

Growing up in the south a backyard party is a staple for all celebrations, especially a birthday party.

COLOR SCHEME
When I started planning his party in January May, I decided to go with a birthday color scheme instead of just a toddler inspired cartoon theme. I chose this just in case he was no longer interested in said shows, Word World and Super Why. These shows are no longer releasing new episodes, therefore finding themed party supplies posed a little challenge. Not to mention most of them didn’t match my decorating style. I chose a black, silver, white, lime green, and turquoise birthday party color scheme. I incorporated a few of the elements from his two favorite shows with letters and characters.

DECORATIONS
Balloon garlands are one of my favorite ways to decorate an event. They are super cheap and easy to make! All you need is a needle, a thick string and balloons of your choice. Knowing that this garland would be one of the main attractions to creating this party feel, thought this would be a great way to announce that our tiny man would be two. I pulled a page out of Pinterest and created a cardboard “2” and sunglasses. They were required very little time. I cut apart a large box, sketched both with a pencil and cut them out. The “2” is wrapped with black streamer and the sunglasses were hand painted with acrylic paint. The table up was by far the best part about setting up for his party. I used a black and white wrapping paper and colored paper plates to create this toddler friendly look. I wanted the space where he and his 2 cousins would sit to eat to be inviting and exciting as soon as they saw it! As you can see here is where I chose to incorporate a character from Super Why & Word World that complimented the birthday party color scheme.

FUN & GAMES
He is so lucky to have a summer birthday, which means summer fun activities for the party. The kids an alphabet splash pad and moon bounce. Luckily, we were able to borrow these from a family member. We started the party exploring the splash pad and later transitioned into the moon bounce. There was a plan, but that went out the window and we just let them go for it! It worked out well in the end, we were able to take advantage of the sun and heat during water play. The kids were hungry (naturally) after their water play, so getting them dressed to sit down for their meal was an easy transition. After dinner they hung out on the rug for more water play with toys, bubbles and popsicles.

Oooh, to be a kid again. Covid-ly celebrating his 2nd birthday turned out to be just what our family needed! Quality time, fresh air, great food, and fond memories.
